The Tumblr Purge was nothing more than the staff punishing us for their mistakes.

We reported the child porn and bots for years but they only paid attention when Apple pulled the app. Now they’re going overboard while the bots remain intact.

What’s also exacerbating the issue is a certain “community” on tumblr that is prone to sending false flags and reports over fictional content.  I don’t doubt that it was legitimate content that caused Apple to pull the app (there was a fairly recent post exposing a nest of predators that were utilizing tumblr to facilitate trade of illicit images offsite, though the post was taken down after authorities got involved, in order to keep others from potentially using it as a contact list).  However, it would seem that @staff, in a state of panic (as well as a state of being horribly understaffed, and with a tendency to prioritize speed over all else–including the rights and concerns of their userbase) aren’t bothering to properly examine the reports they receive, nor examine the content of tags.

Because of this, we are all currently locked into Safe Mode, regardless of age.  We are unable to fully utilize the search function.  Users are flocking en masse to Newgrounds.  Many artists that posted entirely legal content that staff explicitly stated was allowed–and protected–by their Terms of Service have lost everything they took years to achieve.

Meanwhile, porn bots continue to be a problem.  In fact, it would seem that they haven’t been impacted whatsoever.  They’re just being programmed to avoid using certain words while still hijacking posts, and promoting the same content.  Focusing on hyperlinks does all of jack and shit when they can just substitute a few commas to get around it.  Everything tumblr is implementing is hurting only their own slesh-and-blood users, and our ability to share information.

I hate to say this, but I’m afraid the current situation is due not only to staff’s negligence (I have yet to see a news/information site that hasn’t placed the blame quarely on the staff, and considered their handling of the situation disasterous), but also to other users abusing the reporting system.  In all honesty, a large part of the situation could be alleviated if the site had an age limit of 18. Minors make up a mere 15%-16% of this site’s userbase, but their presence is now affecting ALL of us, as well as making it a LOT harder for staff to zero in on the people legitimately harming and exploiting innocent children.

The only people celebrating any aspect of this are the people that are partially to blame for it.

The problem definitely is not the adults being sexual and weird about minors. It’s those minors themselves who are the issue. Why don’t they just delete their blogs and let us adults post our loli and fictional child thirst in peace.

I don’t know if you think you’re insulting me, but I have no personal
stake in this.  I have no ships to defend.  I don’t create adult
content.  You’re missing the actual point of the post in favor of your
own interpretation, so let me better explain this to you:

TL;DR: The issue is that the methods that staff are using are impacting function of the site for the majority of its users, and that people abusing the reporting system are causing even SFW blogs to be deleted, and have to go through a lengthy process of retrieval, which is further expending very limited resources they could be using to FIND AND BAN THE FUCKING PEDOPHILES.

One of you fuckers legit said they should be going after “Shidge” shippers first.  Instead of saving REAL. ABUSED. CHILDREN.

For once in
your fucking fiction-obsessed, empty little lives, let people care more about stopping the sexual abuse
and exploitation of real goddamn children instead of caring so much
about what are literally just OTHER TEENAGERS DRAWING DIRTY PICTURES OF CARTOONS BECAUSE THEY FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE AROUND IMAGES THEY CAN CONTROL THAN REAL PEOPLE.
