The sad thing is that despite it being canon that taako has a short sword he knows how to use, I could never have a moment where his wand gets thrown out his hand only for him to pull out his sword ready to fuck shit up because 99% of fanon dictates that taako isn’t anything close to a physical fighter

You can’t convince me that outcast but never alone taako, brother of universal badass Lup, had to teach himself magic while traveling on the dangerous roads, did not somehow learn how to throw hands on a moments notice

he is scrappy and he will knock your daylights out

[ID: listen I have seen zero taako with a sword content and I think that shit needs to be acknowledged because if the man’s got a blade he for sure knows how to use it and WILL /END ID]

Consider this: Taako said (while voidfished) that he only learned magic because he wanted to have a flashier cooking show. And I’ve always thought that was revealed to be false once he got his memories back. But what if Taako spent a good majority of his life only knowing how to defend himself with a sword until he and Lup decided to boost up their cooking and performer skills by learning magic and were like oh shit we’re actually bombass wizards oh shit

Also consider:

Magnus: why’d you buy the poisoning raging poisoning sword of doom when you don’t know how to use it.

Taako: ….I??? I’m pretty sure I do know????

oh now THERES A THOUGHT. maybe lup found evocation magic quite quickly as a talent and she used it while they were growing up and taako conversely found it harder to learn and so he instead took up swordfighting to help protect the two of them, and some rudimentary evocation magic as well but that perhaps the only resource for learning spells they could get their hands on was for evocation and so he always assumed he struggled with magic. and in the process of getting into the IPRE they discovered he had a knack for transmutation and so he leaned heavily into that. but he always kept up practice with the sword just in case.

Taako read up on the theory of transmutation once and really liked it, but it always came down to getting materials for either that or evocation, and he just presumed that since Lup took to magic quicker, she should get first pick on the magic books. So she gets accepted at IPRE and Taako just decided that he should get a job nearby so that she could focus on studying instead on whether they eat that week or not. But then, while waiting for Lup to meet up with him on campus, some rich asshole started harassing him. So Taako pulls out his sword and they get into a fight in the middle of the quad that’s so bad that school officials have to break them apart.

But now everyone’s curious cause they could very obviously see some magic on Taako’s end and he’s just like “Yeah about that….”

Because he read up on the theory of transmutation once and tested it out a few times on his sword, managing to make the blade sharper mid swing if he wanted, or even take a cheap sword and make the materials on it top notch. And more often than not, he would do this in the middle of the fight. That’s some high class magic skills.

So Taako enrolls in the transmutation program and becomes IPRE’s best transmutation wizard, but he keeps up his sword fighting skills until he’s assigned to the Starblaster project and a teenage Magnus Burnsides starts crying about how the cool magic wizard can also swordfight so now he’s the one guy on the crew with no cool niche of his own and Taako gets so fed up he starts using magic during all their physical training exercises instead just to make the stupid kid shut up

listen. if you don’t tell this story i fucking might because now i need more taako swordfighting content.
